Scapholunate dissociation, also known as rotary subluxation of the scaphoid, refers to an abnormal orientation of the scaphoid relative to the lunate, and implies severe injury to the scapholunate interosseous ligament and other stabilizing ligaments. Carpal dissociation implies carpal instability, which has important clinical implications; thus it is essential to identify this finding on imaging.
A scapholunate torn ligament does not heal on its own. If left untreated, a torn ligament typically leads to arthritis over time. This is because the bones of the wrist are no longer held in normal alignment.
Most commonly injured ligament of the wrist · Injury most commonly occurs from provocative wrist ligament testing,3 and the presence of a displaced intra- articular distal radius fracture and the resulting carpal malalignment might obscure differ-. 11 Aug 2020 This includes scapholunate dissociation (SLD) and lunotriquetral The wrist is made up of the distal radius, distal ulna, and eight carpal bones 10 Mar 2014 46yo male presents with chief complaint of left wrist pain. Patient slipped on side walk on sheet of ice and fell forward, landing on outstretched 2 May 2007 A ganglion cyst, 4 mm in diameter, was noted on the right dorsal wrist. Scapholunate dissociation alters articular contact areas and stress We discuss a type of wrist injury called a "SL dissociation" also known as a theres enough overall ligament support to keep everyone in the right position for the Its called a SLAC wrist (Scapholunate advanced collapse) With school right around the corner, our staff has partnered with the Family ReEntry Youth Program and the RYASAP (Regional Youth Adult Social Action He also specializes in scapholunate dissociation, ORIF of the wrist with volar The reviews left by his patients and our staff are a true testament of how great of It also illustrates lateral, dorsal and medial views of the left wrist and ankle joint.

There is obliteration the radiocarpal joint between radius and scaphoid (yellow arrow). There is scapholunate advanced collapse (SLAC) with scapholunate dissociation and marked proximal migration of the capitate (green arrow). A finding on a plain film of the wrist characterised by a marked widening (a gap of 3 mm or more) of the joint space between the scaphoid and lunate, which is seen in patients with rotatory subluxation of the scaphoid (scapholunate dislocation). Untreated, the subluxation is associated with chronic wrist pain and disability.

Se hela listan på cambridgeorthopaedics.com 2020-02-01 · Scapholunate ligament tear is most frequently encountered in the aftermath of trauma in supination and extension of the wrist. It generates chronic instability, leading to osteoarthritis. It may be associated with fracture of the distal epiphysis of the radius or of the scaphoid.

The scapholunate ligament is an intraarticular ligament binding the scaphoid and lunate bones of the wrist together.
Sometimes the athlete may not recall the fall because they didn’t seek treatment immediately, but instead sought treatment weeks later when they continued to have pain. Traumatic injury of wrist while in extension resulting in disruption, most commonly, of the dorsal scapholunate ligament. This is also known as a DISI (Dorsal Intercalated Segmental Instability) injury. (1,2)
Scapholunate dissociation. Scapholunate dissociation is the most common carpal instability. Scapholunate instability is associated with increased scaphoid flexion and pronation with associated lunate extension.

2-A through 2-C: Scapholunate dissociation in a forty-eight-year-old man who had an acute dorsiflexion injury of his left wrist when he fell forward in an apple tree and checked his fall with the left hand. Fig. 2-A: Posteroanterior roentgenogram with the left wrist in neutral position shows a three Left untreated, scapholunate dissociation can lead to posttraumatic wrist arthritis. Multiple surgical procedures have been designed to reduce the scapholunate interval, restore normal wrist Wrist gouty arthritis presenting as scaphoid erosions with scapholunate ligament disruption Lee Y H D, Tan H W, Lee H C ABSTRACT We report a 43 -year -old man who presented with features of acute wrist inflammation with scapholunate dissociation.
Associated injuries. DISI (dorsal intercalated segmental instability) scapholunate dissociation causes the scaphoid to flex palmar and the lunate to dorsiflex; if left untreated the DISI deformity can progress into a SLAC wrist
This handout explains the follow-up care after the surgery to repair your scapholunate ligament (SLL). The SLL is a complex ligament (Fig 1).

The aching, dull and stiff pain in her left wrist gradually started one year prior. Diagnostic X‐ray examination showed severe degenerative joint disease of the left wrist with scapholunate dissociation, scapholunate ligament tear, and avascular necrosis of the lunate (Figure 1). The patient was subsequently treated with corticosteroid injection of the wrist which only provided relief for less than a week.
2020-07-01 · The scapholunate advanced collapse [SLAC] pattern of carpal osteoarthritis was first described by Watson and Ballet in 1984 as the most common form of human wrist arthritis. This repetitive sequence of degenerative changes is based on and caused by articular alignment problems between the scaphoid, the lunate, and the radius. The wrist is complex joint consisting of 8 small bones, connected to each other with many strong ligaments.
